Creating art in public spaces
Collaborating with some of Sydney’s finest Artists, we consult on application techniques during the design process to ensure the artist’s vision can accurately be reproduced on site. Public art promotes community identity and creativity; it can take the form of a sculpture, mural, play equipment, landscaping or memorial. As well as specialising in the application of public artwork, we also create custom pieces to your design brief.
Concrete art application techniques
Sprayed Concrete Artwork
This technique is suited to applying concrete art such as Murals, Company Logos, Cartoons and Illustrations. Used most effectively for solid colour reproduction.
Stained Concrete Artwork
When applied to a cementitious surface, the acid stain becomes a permanent part of the surface. This application is great for recreating elements that require a “natural” look. Tonal variations through the staining process add depth to the finish. Popular applications include desert scapes and water as seen at
Sydney’s International Airport.
Each technique produces stunning results. However, mixing these applications can help achieve colour and textural variation that makes the work come to life.

Concrete by Design was recently part of a design winning team for work carried out at the old Water Police Site at Pyrmont. Concrete by Design in collaboration with Fiona Robbe Landscape Architects designed and installed an interactive childs playground that featured a whale as the centre piece of the water playground. The installation of this large scale utilised techniques such as Concrete Staining, Spraying and Glass Crystals to achieve the finished piece.
